I focus on the legal, regulatory, and business aspects of technology businesses and startups, with specific experience in financial technology and blockchain. As in-house counsel at Pithia Inc. I advised and managed general corporate governance and business matters, but focused the bulk of my time on learning the regulations implicated by the introduction of blockchain technology to banking, financing, money transmission, securities, supply chains, privacy, and data validation. In doing so I gained a working knowledge of the Banking Secrecy Act, Money Services Businesses, securities and SEC regulation of exchanges, corporate financing, privacy and identity, and venture capital. I performed traditional and technology specific due diligence for portfolio companies (including risk assessment based on tokenized business models, FinTech applications, and a rapidly changing regulatory environment). I provided the same counsel to our portfolio companies, and offered high level industry overviews of legal, regulatory, and operational issues associated with blockchain and financial technology to fellow VCs, investors, and lawyers by writing, speaking on panels and at conferences, and providing one-on-one education. I am always happy to speak at events or serve as a contributing writer.

I'm currently an adjunct professor at Seattle University School of Law teaching "introduction to financial regulation"  which apparently will be changing to a DeFi only focus this coming spring semester.
